About Me

My photo
Hi! I'm Eunice and I live in Bolton, Lancashire, with my two dogs Sophie and Sugar and an assortment of cats - well it used to be Sophie and Sugar, now it's Sophie and Poppie. I first began camping back in 1997 when my then partner took me to Anglesey for my birthday weekend. We slept in the back of the car - a hatchback - using the cushions off the settee at home as a mattress, and cooked and brewed up on a single burner camping stove. The site was good, the views were great, the weather fantastic and I was completely hooked. Following that weekend we got a two-man tent and some proper accessories and returned to Anglesey two weeks later, then over time we progressed to a three-man tent followed by an old trailer tent, then a new trailer tent, a campervan and finally a caravan. When my partner decided that the grass was greener on the other side of the street - literally - in April 2009 and I suddenly found myself alone after fifteen years, I decided there was no way I was going to give up camping and caravanning if I could cope on my own. This blog is the story of my travels, trials and tribulations since becoming a solo camper - I hope you like it

Monday May 9th 2016 - What a difference two weeks make

Well, sixteen days to be exact.

The first photo was taken on April 23rd while on a dog walk along a local disused canal. The weather was very warm for the time of year and beautifully sunny; other than the sound of birdsong and the occasional bleat of a sheep in the nearby fields it was very quiet and peaceful along the canal and all around me there were signs of spring developing, though most of the trees still had quite some way to go before they came into full leaf.

During the following ten days the weather gods threw down every bit of bad weather they could think of and it only started to come nice again last Friday; the weekend has been gloriously warm and sunny so I've been back out on long walks around the local area with the dogs. Today I walked along the same canal and the second photo, taken from almost the same spot as the first, shows what a change there's been in only sixteen days - the trees were bursting with new life and all around me everything was completely green.

According to the weather forecast - if it's right - the rest of the week is going to be good so I'll be out every day with the dogs and the camera looking for other local photo opportunities, though I'll be saving the shots to keep the blog ticking over during the winter.  And as for the housework at the moment - well, I can do that when it's raining, the current sunshine is far too good to miss.

I really love sunny days in spring when everything is so new and green - I always feel glad to be alive on days like that :)

  4. And long may it continue....though it probably won't. Thursday and yesterday were the warmest days of the week here, it's been noticeably cooler today although still warm in the sunshine.

  6. Thank you Yvonne.

It's been great to be able to wear cycling shorts and a t-shirt this week, and I'm beginning to get a lovely tan just walking the dogs in the sunshine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll be like this for my next planned camping trip at the end of the month.

  7. One good thing about the rain is that it brings new life to the trees and plants and nurtures them. I love the miracle of Spring.

  8. I love spring too. It's great to see everything coming to life again after the winter, and a sunny spring day always gives me that 'feel good' factor.

  9. Hi human, Eunice,

Enchanting and enticing photos, my kind human friend. The signs of spring and the renewal, are now here in such resplendent glory. Although, the last couple of days it has poured around here. My human, Gary, a few hours ago, went a got his drenched son and a friend back from Dovedale in the Peak District.

Here's to a hopefully sunny weekend.

    Pawsitive wishes,

    Penny :)

  10. I hope Tristan and his friend managed to get dried out okay Penny, there's nothing worse than being soaking wet.

Dovedale, especially the area where the stepping stones are, is one of the places I've been meaning to go to for ages but I never quite seem to get there - I'll do it some day though.

The weather for this weekend here isn't looking too good at the moment, it's dull and damp but hopefully it'll brighten up later.

Best wishes to you and Gary :)

  11. It's been beautiful this week, except for Thursday and Friday which were very wet. We find the weather forecasts are pretty accurate these days but the weather if really changeable. Absolutely make the most of the sunshine while it lasts!

  12. It was lovely here all week up until late yesterday afternoon when it started raining. There's been a few brief sunny spells today but as I type this now it's absolutely hammering it down - no chance of the dogs going out again at the moment! :(
