About Me

My photo
Hi! I'm Eunice and I live in Bolton, Lancashire, with my two dogs Sophie and Sugar and an assortment of cats - well it used to be Sophie and Sugar, now it's Sophie and Poppie. I first began camping back in 1997 when my then partner took me to Anglesey for my birthday weekend. We slept in the back of the car - a hatchback - using the cushions off the settee at home as a mattress, and cooked and brewed up on a single burner camping stove. The site was good, the views were great, the weather fantastic and I was completely hooked. Following that weekend we got a two-man tent and some proper accessories and returned to Anglesey two weeks later, then over time we progressed to a three-man tent followed by an old trailer tent, then a new trailer tent, a campervan and finally a caravan. When my partner decided that the grass was greener on the other side of the street - literally - in April 2009 and I suddenly found myself alone after fifteen years, I decided there was no way I was going to give up camping and caravanning if I could cope on my own. This blog is the story of my travels, trials and tribulations since becoming a solo camper - I hope you like it

Monday July 25th 2011 - "I left my tent at Golden Sunset"......

Okay, so it's not exactly "I left my heart in San Fransisco" but at least the words fit the tune - and that's exactly what I did. After the bitterly cold fog of the night before I woke to another gloriously warm sunny morning, far too nice to be going back home - which set me thinking. I still wanted to visit Port Meirion so it looked like I would be taking a chance on more good weather and returning to Anglesey at the end of the week - leaving my tent on site the week before had proved to be very successful so I thought I may as well do the same again if I could. After taking the dogs for a walk and having some breakfast I went to reception to see the warden and confirm that it was okay for me to do that and she said it was - brilliant! At least I wouldn't have much packing up to do before I left and it would save a lot of hassle when I returned at the end of the week. On my way back to my pitch I stopped to chat to three guys who I'd spoken to a few times over the weekend, they were on a 10-day 'lads fishing holiday' and when I mentioned that I was leaving my tent they said they were quite happy to keep an eye on it for me.

So with not much packing up to do it meant that I could spend my morning relaxing in the sun then leave the site in time to have a leisurely drive back home. It didn't take long to load up the few things I was taking home, then after I'd given the guys my phone number in case of any problems I put the dogs in the van and set off, calling at reception on my way out to change my barrier pass for one which would operate over the following weekend. Then it was down to the beach to give Sophie and Sugar a good walk before the journey home - I don't think a weekend on Anglesey would be complete without going for a walk on the beach before leaving the island.

The drive back home was very pleasant in the sunshine and I had almost reached Manchester before the road became very busy, but there were no real hold-ups and I got home with time to spare before I went to work. It seemed strange to think that in only four days time I would be going back to where I'd just come from but I was already looking forward to it - I only hoped that I would get some more fantastic good weather to make it all worthwhile and that I would finally get to Port Meirion.
