About Me

My photo
Hi! I'm Eunice and I live in Bolton, Lancashire, with my two dogs Sophie and Sugar and an assortment of cats - well it used to be Sophie and Sugar, now it's Sophie and Poppie. I first began camping back in 1997 when my then partner took me to Anglesey for my birthday weekend. We slept in the back of the car - a hatchback - using the cushions off the settee at home as a mattress, and cooked and brewed up on a single burner camping stove. The site was good, the views were great, the weather fantastic and I was completely hooked. Following that weekend we got a two-man tent and some proper accessories and returned to Anglesey two weeks later, then over time we progressed to a three-man tent followed by an old trailer tent, then a new trailer tent, a campervan and finally a caravan. When my partner decided that the grass was greener on the other side of the street - literally - in April 2009 and I suddenly found myself alone after fifteen years, I decided there was no way I was going to give up camping and caravanning if I could cope on my own. This blog is the story of my travels, trials and tribulations since becoming a solo camper - I hope you like it

Sunday June 5th 2016 - Summer Holiday Part 1 - Return to Anglesey

A lovely sunny morning at 7am saw me setting off for my 10-day holiday on Anglesey, my second stay there in less than a week. I arrived at the site at 9.30 to find it still quite busy, however it was now the end of the school holiday and all those campers with kids were packing up to leave, so in a few hours it would be much quieter. Deciding I would wait until everyone had gone before looking for a pitch I parked the van on the patch of grass I'd vacated only five days previously, plugged my hook-up cable into a nearby post so I could keep the cool box running, set my chair and the dogs' bed at the side of the van and spent the morning relaxing in the very warm sunshine.

It was gone 1pm by the time everyone had gone and I could finally look for a pitch. Just like the previous weekend my favourite small field was unavailable and seasonal caravans on other parts of the site were monopolising the hook-up points, so if I wanted power I didn't have a lot of pitching options. I eventually settled on the bottom end of the large grassy area I'd been on before; again it was close to the access track but with everyone now gone from the site there would be no-one driving past, and at least it was level. The hook-up post was up at the top end though so I'd have to use my extension cable, but other than that it was a perfect spot. With no wind - not even the hint of a breeze - putting up the tent was easy-peasy and it wasn't too long before everything was sorted out inside and I was able to take the dogs for a decent walk.

The rest of the day and evening were spent relaxing with a book and a dvd, then just before the daylight faded completely I took Sophie and Poppie for their pre-bedtime walk. With all the families gone, and only about half a dozen occupied caravans on other parts of the site, it was certainly very quiet - and after a recently very busy period in my work/home life that's just how I wanted it.
