About Me

My photo
Hi! I'm Eunice and I live in Bolton, Lancashire, with my two dogs Sophie and Sugar and an assortment of cats - well it used to be Sophie and Sugar, now it's Sophie and Poppie. I first began camping back in 1997 when my then partner took me to Anglesey for my birthday weekend. We slept in the back of the car - a hatchback - using the cushions off the settee at home as a mattress, and cooked and brewed up on a single burner camping stove. The site was good, the views were great, the weather fantastic and I was completely hooked. Following that weekend we got a two-man tent and some proper accessories and returned to Anglesey two weeks later, then over time we progressed to a three-man tent followed by an old trailer tent, then a new trailer tent, a campervan and finally a caravan. When my partner decided that the grass was greener on the other side of the street - literally - in April 2009 and I suddenly found myself alone after fifteen years, I decided there was no way I was going to give up camping and caravanning if I could cope on my own. This blog is the story of my travels, trials and tribulations since becoming a solo camper - I hope you like it

Friday August 2nd 2013 - Nothing to do with camping but.....

This is a bit of unashamed canvassing - I've entered some photos of Sophie in a Perfect Pooch competition. The prize is a holiday in a pet-friendly cottage plus various doggy items which if I win (though I don't think I've a cat in hell's chance) will be shared with Sugar. The winner is the dog with the most votes - she only has twelve so far so now I need all my lovely blog readers to please log on to her page and vote for her by clicking the red heart. Each person can only vote once, and the competition closing date is September 1st. So a big 'thank you' in advance to anyone who does vote for her - I'll let you know the outcome in due course.

**  As of August 9th Sophie now has 24 votes and is featured on the competition's 'most popular' page, but with some of the dogs having well over 30 votes, and with three weeks still to go, she has a lot of catching up to do.

UPDATE - Thanks to all those of you who voted for Sophie, she finally finished with 29 votes, with the very worthy winner having a staggering 251. But joint 15th place out of 5,547 isn't bad so she still got a treat, and if I remember I may enter her photos again next year.

  3. she's a little beauty x , ps we're off on our first camping holiday for the year in 2 weeks and 3 days, for 10-12 days :) going to try a new bed this year, as the blow up beds have never worked for us so this year we have a large foam mattress with a futon mattress on top and then a double quilt on top, so fingers crossed its comfy as my mobility problems are making it important that im as comfortable as possiible, also me and my husband will be buying a weekend tent soon, now our youngest son is 16 , so me and him can get away more often, Love camping and Love reading your blog thanks so much x

  5. Your bed sounds like it should be quite comfy, I hope that combination works for you. After trying several different combinations myself I now have this - camp bed, sim, 4-inch thick foam mattress (ex-trailer tent), and double duvet, with fleece blanket instead of sheet plus fleece blanket and duvet over - so comfy and cosy I don't want to get out of it half the time!

  6. Well, Sophie gets my vote! Although I had to think carefully about it! Taking your KitKat is a serious offence which in our house is punishable by no cuddles for an hour or two (just ask our Westie Jake)! But she is a cute little dog so I hope she wins!

  7. Thanks Phil. That's half the trouble, she's just too cute. She only has to give me 'that look' - the one which says ''I'm sorry mum, please don't shout at me'' - and I just can't stay cross with her. Anyway, I could go to the corner shop and get another KitKat but I'd have to go a long way to get another little character like Sophie.
