About Me

My photo
Hi! I'm Eunice and I live in Bolton, Lancashire, with my two dogs Sophie and Sugar and an assortment of cats - well it used to be Sophie and Sugar, now it's Sophie and Poppie. I first began camping back in 1997 when my then partner took me to Anglesey for my birthday weekend. We slept in the back of the car - a hatchback - using the cushions off the settee at home as a mattress, and cooked and brewed up on a single burner camping stove. The site was good, the views were great, the weather fantastic and I was completely hooked. Following that weekend we got a two-man tent and some proper accessories and returned to Anglesey two weeks later, then over time we progressed to a three-man tent followed by an old trailer tent, then a new trailer tent, a campervan and finally a caravan. When my partner decided that the grass was greener on the other side of the street - literally - in April 2009 and I suddenly found myself alone after fifteen years, I decided there was no way I was going to give up camping and caravanning if I could cope on my own. This blog is the story of my travels, trials and tribulations since becoming a solo camper - I hope you like it

Happy New Year

Those of you who don't read my Mouse House blog won't have known that I had my van stolen, along with much of my camping gear, back in mid August. It was an awful experience and one which I didn't want to broadcast too much; needless to say I haven't been camping since my June holiday in the Lake District, which explains my absence on here. However, I now have a new-to-me van and I'm well on the way to replacing all my gear so hopefully I'll be camping again over the forthcoming Easter weekend.

So thank you to everyone who reads this blog and has followed my camping adventures so far - I hope you all have a happy and prosperous New Year. And in the words of The Terminator - ''I'll be back!''

  1. I was just thinking about this the other day. I'm so pleased you have a new van, Eunice, I'm just sorry you had to go through the whole sorry experience in the first place.
A very Happy New Year to you and here's to many more adventures. X

  2. I've had the new van for a while but haven't blogged about it yet as I want to adapt it and 'bling' it up a bit before I do. It's the same make and model as my old one but a lighter grey and with a few more gadgets and gizmos that the other one didn't have. I'm really looking forward to my first camping adventure in it and hopefully it will be as good as the old one :-)

  7. Glad to hear the van has been replaced. Happy New Year! Feeling slightly fragile this morning but a large pot of tea is helping.

  8. It was an awful time for you but now's the time to look forward to many more camping holidays in your new van. We missed out on seeing you in August last year but hopefully there'll be an Anglesey holiday in your planner for 2020.
Happy New Year to you Eunice x

  9. I'm not dwelling on what happened last year Eileen, I've got the new van now and I'm looking forward to some good camping holidays to come, so hopefully I'll manage to get down to your neck of the woods sometime this year even if it's only for a weekend :-)

  10. Hi Tigermouse, just wondered how you are coping this year, I can imagine what you're going through with travelling during the lockdown. Hope you're safe and well.

    Yvonne.

  11. Thanks for your comment Yvonne, I've been meaning to write a non-camping post just to let people know I'm still here but somehow I've not got round to it. I'm absolutely fine, as I hope you are, and though I can still get out and about to places for walks camping is out of the question so far, though hopefully it won't be too long now before camp sites will be operational again :)

  13. Thank you for your comment, onwards and upwards indeed. The van was replaced only a few weeks after the theft and most of my camping gear has gradually been replaced, though I haven't managed to go anywhere this year because of the virus situation. Hopefully next year will be a much better one and I'll be able to get at least a couple of camping breaks somewhere.

  15. Thank you for your comment and welcome to my blog. I would have been up and running again last year as the van and most of my camping things were soon replaced but of course the virus stopped me from going anywhere. Hopefully this year I'll be able to find some camp sites open so i can go back to doing something I really enjoy :)

  16. Good to see you up and running again Eunice. We look forward to reading of your camping adventures in the not to distant future.

Allan, Gill, and Monty our new westie. Unfortunately we lost our Jack last year. He was almost 16 and diabetic, but we have our wonderful memories of our boy.

  17. Thanks for your comment, I'm sorry to hear you lost Jack last year - I lost Sophie, one of my little camping buddies, in February last year, almost five weeks after she had a stoke. I still have Poppie and I got Snowy, a new little friend, last September. Another little Jack Russell she was only 8 months old when she came to me - she hadn't been socialised so needs some training and she's as mad as a box of frogs but very cute with it :)

Needless to say I still haven't managed to get away anywhere because of the virus - I really should update this blog but somehow just haven't got round to it. Hopefully once the virus situation has eased I might be able to book somewhere :)

  19. Thank you Eva for taking the time to comment. As you've no doubt realised, I've been unable to go anywhere since this post because of the pandemic - all my planned camping breaks last year had to be cancelled :( However, I now have a 10-day break booked up in Cumbria for June/July so hopefully it won't be long before I can add more posts and pics to this blog :) Meanwhile, I do have another blog which features other aspects of my life, including street art photography - if you would like to take a look you can find it at

  20. Oh, Eunice. I didn't realise you had your van stolen. How awful! So sorry. I wondered why I hadn't been notified of any new posts for ages and thought it was just due to lockdown and Covid related. Well, here is hoping you get back on the road soon. x

  21. Thanks Ruth. My absence from here is mainly Covid-related - I got my new van not long after my old one had been stolen but by then it was practically the end of the 2019 camping season and with no camping gear I couldn't go anywhere anyway. I did have two 10-day camping holidays planned for last year but both had to be cancelled because of Covid, however I went out for days in September, the weather was good, I discovered some new places and enjoyed myself just as much. At least things have opened up now, I've recently had ten days camping up in Cumbria and have just booked at the same site for another ten days in September.

I've been told by more than one person that since I wrote this post Blogger has made some quite significant changes and I could end up struggling to write a post and add photos until I get my head round everything. That being so, I'm currently writing about my recent camping trip on my Mousehouse blog, hopefully once I'm up to date with it I can tackle whatever changes have been made by Blogger and copy/paste/re-write it all on here.
