Arriving at the large paddock used as a car park I left the van under a tree, clipped the leads on the dogs and went over to reception to check the board which would tell me which paddock Rusty was in; he was in Fieldfare paddock, sharing with Icky the grey Welsh pony, Oliver the little pony with the twisted nose, and a very dark grey horse which I didn't manage to find the name of. Rusty has been at Redwings since 1983 and I originally adopted him not long afterwards - even though he's now over thirty years old he's still a very handsome horse. I spent quite some time talking to them all before having a wander round to see who was in some of the other paddocks, then leaving the dogs back in the van I went for a quick coffee - minus the cake for once - and a look in the shop, where I bought a couple of horsey notebooks and a calendar for next year featuring all the adoption horses.
Back at the van I spent a few minutes at the end of the paddock playing ball with the dogs then set off back to the camp site. The weather had been improving all the time I'd been at Redwings and most of the cloud had gone so I spent the rest of the afternoon sitting in the sun outside the tent, and with hardly anyone else on the camping field - just two small tents and a campervan at the far end - the place was very quiet. A short dog walk along the beach just before the daylight faded kept Sophie and Sugar happy and we all retreated to our beds a while later with fingers and paws crossed for good weather the following day.
