About Me

My photo
Hi! I'm Eunice and I live in Bolton, Lancashire, with my two dogs Sophie and Sugar and an assortment of cats - well it used to be Sophie and Sugar, now it's Sophie and Poppie. I first began camping back in 1997 when my then partner took me to Anglesey for my birthday weekend. We slept in the back of the car - a hatchback - using the cushions off the settee at home as a mattress, and cooked and brewed up on a single burner camping stove. The site was good, the views were great, the weather fantastic and I was completely hooked. Following that weekend we got a two-man tent and some proper accessories and returned to Anglesey two weeks later, then over time we progressed to a three-man tent followed by an old trailer tent, then a new trailer tent, a campervan and finally a caravan. When my partner decided that the grass was greener on the other side of the street - literally - in April 2009 and I suddenly found myself alone after fifteen years, I decided there was no way I was going to give up camping and caravanning if I could cope on my own. This blog is the story of my travels, trials and tribulations since becoming a solo camper - I hope you like it

Wednesday March 27th 2013 - The A - Z Challenge

A couple of weeks ago I decided that I was going to take part in this year's A - Z Challenge which runs throughout April, so I signed up and added this blog title to the list. It's mainly just for fun and there are no prizes, but it challenges bloggers to get creative with their thinking and writing and gives them the opportunity to visit and read other people's blogs and leave comments.

The basic idea is that starting on April 1st with the letter 'A' and continuing right through the alphabet a post is written every day of the month except Sundays. Some bloggers will start new blogs especially for the challenge, others will add posts to blogs they already write, and the subjects are guaranteed to be very varied and diverse. As this is a camping blog it goes without saying that all my posts will have something to do with camping - I've already drafted the first three in readiness and I'm hoping to get the fourth one done before I go away for the Easter weekend. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to think of something to write for most of the letters, but the challenge will really kick in when I get to Q, X, Y and Z - fingers crossed that my brain can come up with something suitable. So starting next Monday why not make yourself a brew, pull up a chair and log on to read the inane ramblings of a solo camper!

Monday February 25th 2013 - Another grey day

I woke that morning to another grey and miserable day but it didn't really matter too much as I was going home anyway. I wasn't in too much of a rush though so after a dog walk round the lake and the stable block I made a brew and some toast and had a leisurely breakfast before I began to think about packing up. From the various noises coming from the next pitch it was obvious that John and Graham were getting ready to leave, and when I heard them hitching up the caravan I went out to say my goodbyes - it had been great chatting to them the night before and I didn't think it would be long before we met up again on another site somewhere.

I took my time in packing everything in the van and taking the tent down, and with a quick look round the pitch for any stray tent pegs I was ready for leaving at 1pm, but first came a good dog walk round the lake at the bottom end of the site. Back on my pitch I couldn't resist taking a couple of photos of Sophie and Sugar in their new hoodies - Sophie's is a bit too big for her and I think it makes her look rather like a glove puppet - then with them safely ensconced in the back of the van I set off for home.

The drive back was trouble free in spite of the miles of roadworks on the M62 and I was home with plenty of time to spare before I went to work. As I downloaded my photos onto the pc that evening I thought back over my weekend and where I had stayed. I'd taken pot luck on the site as it had been someone else's choice, but I had no complaints; it was a nice little place, and I can imagine that on a nice sunny day and with leaves on the trees it would be really lovely. It was a pity that the weather hadn't been better but I'd still had a good weekend, and I'll certainly make a point of going back there in the not-too-distant future.
